This report studies women's rights in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP). The first part identifies the legislation and practices related to women’s rights in this region. The second part introduces the social and civil initiatives to promote, at a local level, the status of women as well as the resistance faced by these movements advocating women’s rights. Finally, the third part provides recommendations for the EMP to further help improve women’s rights in the region.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
