In this study, the Observatory of Parity between Women and Men (replaced by the High Council for Equality between Women and Men in 2013) reviews different voting systems in force in France with a view to answering the following questions: How is the parity law implemented? What are its effects on the French political landscape? What improvements are possible? The document suggests analysing the progress of equal access of women and men to political mandates in the light of cantonal, municipal, regional, European and Senate elections from 1979 to 2011.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
