The handbook forms part of the project "Gender, conflict and the media: Working towards egalitarianism and peace", which seeks to promote the debate on gender inequality and the role of the media in this field. The project seeks to bring about change in how the media's representation of women addresses gender issues. The handbook wishes to contribute to this goal by providing information on gender and the media at the local and world level with a special focus on the situation in Cyprus. Along with the negative representations of women in the media, the document examines their weak presence in executive positions in media-related organizations.
