This publication forms part of a regional initiative "Gender Equality and Workers’ Rights in the Informal Economies of Arab States". It is a compendium of official statistics, laws and policies that do not reflect well the current process termed as "informalization" of employment, which limits social protection to informal workers, notably young girls working in the informal sector in Arab states. The glossary helps to clarify the terms used in informal employment and it assists the work of governmental agencies, workers' and employers' organizations and other associations that deal with issues related to employment and gender equality.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
