This annual report assesses the gap in gender parity in 136 countries and in four different sectors: opportunities and economic equality; access to education; health; political participation and representation at decision-making levels. The index helps to detect possible improvements through comparisons with the previous years.
The first part of the report describes the methodology used to create the index. The second part presents performance at national and regional levels for the year 2010. The following chapter establishes links between gender inequalities and economic growth. Finally, the last part focuses on the trends revealed by the index since it was prepared in 2006.
