Since 1995, every five years, the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) has documented the trends in women' s and men' s portrayal in the news media. Since the 4th GMMP, on 10 November 2009, 1281 newspapers and radio and television stations have been monitored. The research has analysed 16,734 reports and 35,543 sources (individuals interviewed) or news subjects. For the first time, the monitoring of news published on Internet has been included. The GMMP categorizes the news in seven areas: politics and government; economy; science and health; social and legal; crime and violence; famous people; arts, media and sport; and young girls.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
