This publication seeks to meet a heavy demand of information from members of the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) on the strategies of resistance by women in fundamentalist movements in different religious traditions. It is based on the responses of over 1,600 women rights activists in the AWID survey on religious fundamentalisms conducted in September 2007, as well as 51 in-depth interviews and a series of case studies. The study analyses the causes of the rise of religious fundamentalisms, the speeches and messages of religious fundamentalist actors, and the feminist strategies of resistance and opposition.
