The report forms part of the regional programme "Enhancing Equality between Men and Women in the Euromed Region (2008-2011)", which seeks to improve awareness of different types of violence against women by conducting pilot surveys on Gender-based violence (GBV). Based on desk research and the conclusions of the regional expert-group meeting on GBV held in April 2009, the publication provides a conceptual and methodological framework to conduct GBV surveys that respects the standards recognized at an international level, as well as the necessary tools and guidelines for its implementation. A chapter notably explores the issue of the consensus on the definition of GBV.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
