The study reviews the national analyses of the state of play in the nine partner countries of the regional programme "Enhancing Equality between Men and Women in the Euromed Region (2008-2011)" on Gender-based Violence (GBV) and considers the conclusions of two regional expert-group meetings held in Tunis in April 2009 and in Brussels in March 2010. The study assesses the prevalence of GBV and provides an insight into the existing legal and institutional frameworks as well as the strategies and action plans adopted by the target countries. Finally, it provides an overall view of the contributions of civil society organizations fighting against GBV.
