The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region has the lowest female labour force participation rates in the world. This report analyses the situation of women in Egypt, emphasizing the issues of education and employment linked to the tourism and new ICT sectors. It addresses the following questions: What is the potential of these two sectors for employment and income generation for women? How do different types of education impact on women’s employment in these two sectors? The report examines the reasons for the participation of young women trained in jobs linked to these two sectors and seeks to identify how to increase women' s presence in these two sectors.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
