The European Women' s Lobby (EWL) has been instrumental in both the development and implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) on the occasion of the 4th Conference on Women and has been present in each of the monitoring meetings held since then. This publication represents the third Alternative Report and it seeks to assess the progress of each of the 12 critical areas of concern identified in Beijing and the current critical situation in the European Union (EU). The analysis of the initiatives undertaken by the EU, notably at a legislative level, during the period examined by the report enables critical gaps to be identified and specific recommendations addressed both to the EU and its 27 Member States.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
