Research-action on “women' s political participation at a local level in Tunisia”

02.06.2015 / Created by (EMWF)

This document studies the elements that influence the access of women to the public sphere and decision-making positions in Tunisia, such as individual careers and resources, the networks advocating the enhancement of women' s leadership or the political approaches based on alliances. The study describes the evolution of the political participation of women over the years, which has benefitted from a voluntarist state policy of women’s emancipation but also the obstacles that persist and limit this participation (significance of the home and the family, patriarchal culture, stereotypes channelled by the media regarding women, and so on).
