Since 2003, the Directorate-General for Research of the European Commission has published statistics and indicators on the participation of women in science and research, either at the higher education level or in employment and career perspectives. This report has been prepared in collaboration with the Member States, associate countries and Eurostat. This year' s edition tries to respond to the following questions: What progress has been made in the number of women working as researchers? How has their distribution in the different fields of science evolved? Are there more women in senior positions, on the executive and consultative boards of the research bodies?
