This work is based on the findings of a conference on education, gender equality and women' s empowerment, organized by the World Bank in 2007. It presents an illustrative account of the challenges for educational development and provides strategic guidelines to make gender equality progress in education. It reflects the current state of education knowledge from a gender perspective and emphasizes numerous challenges linked to women' s education as well as the interdependence of educational and developmental objectives.

This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
