In December 2009, the Italian government submitted its 6th periodic report to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The organizations linked to the platform “30 years CEDAW: work in progress” drafted an alternative report in order to highlight the critical aspects of the Italian system against gender discrimination. Based on a consultation with civil society organizations, feminist and women’s associations, LGBTQI movements and experts on gender discrimination, it points out the main challenges faced by Italian women to promote their rights.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
