This document has been published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2011. It seeks to offer a selection of data disaggregated by gender on the composition of households, employment rates and self-perceived health. Thus it provides answers to the following questions: What proportion of EU households is formed by single women? What is the proportion of couples? How does the number of children affect the employment rate of mothers and fathers?
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
