On 17 January 2007 the European Economic and Social Committee drew up an own-initiative opinion on "Promotion of Women' s Entrepreneurship in the EUROMED Region", which was adopted in the 12 July 2007 session. The opinion provides an overall view of the status of women in the Euro-Mediterranean region and of the initiatives taken to strengthen their role in society. Business activities carried out by women in the region must be envisaged in function of the global economic, political, social and family framework. The opinion also emphasizes the importance of education, information technologies and access to funding.

This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
