Since the mid-1990s in Belgium, several laws have been adopted to ensure a more balanced presence of men and women on the candidature lists for European, federal, regional, provincial and municipal elections. This report aims to assess women' s presence in the regional parliaments and the European Parliament after the 7 June 2009 elections using criteria such as the composition of the electoral lists or the behaviour of electors in relation to women candidates. Based on these findings of the 1999 and 2004 regional and European elections, the report evaluates the impacts of the "parity acts" on women' s participation in the elections.
