In Sweden, marriage may not be entered into without the valid consent of both people. Nevertheless, many young people are worried that they will not be allowed to choose their own partner or spouse. The Swedish Government has therefore adopted an action plan to prevent young people from being forced into marriage by their parents or for religious and cultural reasons. The 15 measures in the action plan help to strengthen protective work, provide victim support and protection, improve inter-agency cooperation and increase knowledge to prevent young people from being forced into marriage.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
