This collection of articles focuses on the diverse types of violence against women and highlights the failure of many states to take efficient preventive measures. Although the violence exercised by the intimate partner and sexual coercion are the most common types of violence, in many regions around the world violence takes on particular characteristics according to cultural and historical conditions. This document examines some of these characteristics, notably trafficking in women, the treatment of male and female migrant domestic workers, and violence against women in armed conflict situations.
