The Convention was adopted on 18 December 1979 by the General Assembly of the United Nations and came into force as an international treaty on 3 September 1981. It determines the obligations of the states to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women in the political, economic, social, cultural and civil fields. Finally, it establishes rules of procedure to be applied by the Convention’ s member states, which must regularly submit a report to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women on the progress achieved.
