In the framework of the 25th anniversary of the World Conference on Women, initiated by the UN in Beijing in 1995, the CLEF (French Coordination for the European Women’s Lobby, of which Forum Femmes Méditerranée has been a member since its creation) presents the first International Women’s Rights Forum, from April 4-7, 2021- in digital form.
An intergenerational, public and international event, it aims to counter gender stereotypes by raising awareness and mobilising the greatest number of people on the need for gender equality to build a mixed, fair and supportive society.
This international forum promotes the diversity of actions implemented by French associations, members of the CLEF, to defend women’s rights in the world, while associating the mobilisation of actors with reflection and thematic perspectives. It will bring together several dozen foreign speakers and more than a thousand participants from all walks of life.
It will be an opportunity to discuss women’s rights through twenty or so workshops in various formats: conferences, debates, interviews, films and videos. Registration is free and compulsory, so that everyone can receive the information needed to connect to the event.
Echoing the Generation Equality Forum planned in Paris in June 2021 by France, Mexico and the UN for the 25th anniversary of Beijing +25, the CLEF International Forum is also the starting point of an awareness-raising campaign aiming to make the recommendations of civil society known to French, European and international authorities. These recommendations will be submitted in written form to Prime Minister Jean Castex, Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister Elisabeth Moreno, as well as to Ms. Delphine O, Ambassador and Secretary General of the Generation Equality Forum.
The International Women’s Rights Forum of CLEF is supported by many partners: The City of Paris, the French Ministry in charge of equality between women and men and the fight against discrimination, the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the International Organisation of the Francophonie, the Raja-Danièle Marcovici Foundation, Engie, the High Council for Equality between Women and Men in France, the French National Commission for UNESCO, TV5Monde, France Média Monde, Cartooning for Peace, Glory, Drôles d’Oiseaux, and the Forum Génération Égalité.
