The Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation’s photography exhibition "Dones trencant barreres. Transformant les ciutats mediterrànies" ("Women breaking barriers. Transforming Mediterranean cities") is now hosted by Can Trona, Centre de Cultura i Natura de la Vall d’en Bas. The exhibition will be displayed from February 27 to April 30.
Organised by one of the Foundation’s funding members, the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), “Dones trencant barreres” is a travelling exhibition that is now back on tour after the COVID-19 pandemic altered its agenda. Born from the photography contest "Powerful women: Breaking stereotypes in the Euro-Mediterranean region", launched by the Foundation in November 2017 on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the exhibition is a great opportunity to reflect on how the fight for gender equality unfolds in different contexts of the Euro-Mediterranean region.
The exhibition showcases the photographs of the 10 finalists of the competition. Each image is accompanied by a text, which helps us to better grasp the stories of the inspiring women in the pictures. “Dones trencant barreres” brings us closer to brave women who have broken gender stereotypes in their communities and have hence helped to bring change to their surroundings in Algeria, Belgium, Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Turkey and Israel.
This activity is part of the cross-cutting 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
