The year 2021 marks a major milestone in accelerating the implementation of global commitments to gender equality. It marks the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the adoption of its historic significance, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. This visionary agenda sets out how to remove the systemic barriers that prevent women from participating equally in all spheres of life, whether in the public or in the private sector.
Despite the commitments made in Beijing to launch strategic and ambitious actions in twelve key areas, and the progress made since then, to this day no country can claim to have achieved equality between women and men. This is why the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action is a decisive step towards finally achieving the recognition of the human rights for all women and girls.
Envisioned as a partnership with civil society, the Generation Equality Forum is a global gathering to strive for equality between women and men. It is an initiative organized by UN Women and co-chaired by France and Mexico. After kicking off in Mexico City (Mexico), the Forum will culminate in Paris (France) in June 2021. It will launch a set of concrete, ambitious and transformative actions to achieve immediate and sustainable goals connected to gender equality. It aims to build coalitions of actions, leading to measurable commitments over 5 years, on 6 topics.
During this preparatory meeting, speakers from different international, national and local associations will take the floor, and the departmental tour will be presented.
The debate seeks to discuss the concerns and demands of women so that they can be passed on to the international level thanks to the participation of a delegation of women from our Department in Paris.
