In November 2020, the Arab and Mediterranean Film Festival of Catalonia reached its 14th edition to keep giving voice to Arab and Mediterranean cinema. Due to the pandemic, the festival adopted an online format, and some films were cut from the programme.
The Festival committee has announced that the section on classic movies will be featured at the Filmoteca de Catalunya between February 2, and February 4, 2021.
You can check the programme here.
The films in the classic movies section have been selected by the prestigious Palestinian filmmaker Mai Masri, whose works tend to focus on portraying the realities of women and children in Palestine and Lebanon. One of her documentaries, Frontiers of Dreams and Fears, will inaugurate the section. The filmmaker will also take part in a virtual forum that will take place after the film.
On February 3, the programme includes The Silences of the Palace, co-written and directed by Moufida Tlatli. This film portrays the realities of two generations of women at a prince’s palace at the time of the French protectorate in Tunisia.
The topic chosen for the 2020 edition of the Festival envisaged a gender perspective, considering collective, private and everyday forms of resistance.
