Feminist Collective for the GENERATION EQUALITY Forum 2021

14.09.2020 / Created by (EMWF)

Call to associations, collectives, networks, wishing to join the FEMINIST COLLECTIVE FOR THE GENERATION EQUALITY FORUM 2021

We are a collective of associations and national platforms brought together on the occasion of the "Beijing+25 process" (25th anniversary of the United Nations International Conference on Women’s Rights) and the Generation Equality Forum organised in 2021 by France, Mexico and UN Women.

Our forces are united and at the service of defending and safeguarding the rights of women and girls who are seriously threatened here and elsewhere, in France, in the EU and in the world:

- By the rise of reactionary, anti-democratic forces and religious fundamentalism.

- By the increasing number of crisis periods: major economic crisis, more recently the climate, environmental and health crisis, where women are both the ones saving lives and at the same time seeing their rights regress;

- By the exploitation and commodification of women and girls in prostitution and surrogacy, by the impunity of rape and paedocriminality, whereas prostitution and paedocriminality are the subject of several international conventions aimed at eliminating them;

- By the rise in violence against women and girls, although their denunciations have never been greater. There has been no decrease in feminicides in France, for example. The health crisis has seen an increase in violence against women and children;

-By questioning international conventions when it comes, for example, to the attempts by certain governments in Europe to get out of the Istanbul Convention or when it comes to introducing the notion of "sex work" in order to mask prostitution, which is violence against women.

Founded in July 2020, this collective aims to represent the voices of feminist civil society organisations with a view to constituting an independent proposing force in the dialogue with the French government, the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the UN, European and international bodies in general in the context of the Forum Generation Equality process.

We affirm our unity, our solidarity and our determination to work together as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the World Conference on Women’s Rights, a crucial moment for the future of women’s rights.

We are united for real equality between women and men, an overarching value and universal human right, proclaimed and enforced in all areas by global and European treaties
