Tribute to distinguished women in the fields of culture, sport and Human rights

The intercultural association Ibn Rochd which promotes the value and culture of dialogue, tolerance and non-discrimination with the aim of strengthening a model of social coexistence, organises an event on March 7th 2019 in Sant Boi de Llobregat (Catalonia, Spain) on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The event will pay tribute to 6 outstanding women for their professional careers and their commitments in the field of gender equality:

  • Maria Àngels Roque Alonso: director of the department of Mediterranean Cultures of the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), PhD in cultural and social anthropology and a graduate in modern history, she is an expert in Euro-Mediterranean civil society networks.
  • Hodan Sulaman: somalian activist, she works in the field of awareness, prevention and fight against female genital mutilation.
  • Zenib Laari Inoune: graduated in Hispanic philosophy she is world champion in "Kenpo Karate", European and Spanish champion in combat as well as Madrid champion in self-defense.
  • Mari Pau Martínez Ortiz: pedagogue, family therapist and social educator, she promotes justice and solidarity by working with most in need people.
  • Anabel Montes and Letícia Cabo: members of the rescue team of the NGO Proactiva Open Arms, they rescue people fleeing wars, dictatorships and/or lack of economic opportunities who try to cross the Mediterranean.

The general public is cordially invited to attend this event to commemorate the work of these women and attend the concert of the group Burruezo & Nur Camerata, which is specialized in medieval music from all over the Mediterranean.
