The UNESCO Chair for Women, Development and Cultures, at the Centre de Recerca Teoria, Gènere, Sexualitat – ADHUC (Centre for Research Theory, Gender, Sexuality) at the University of Barcelona, co-organizes with the Maritime Museum of Barcelona a series of conferences entitled "Maridatges marítims: la mar es dona" (Maritimes mixtures: The Sea is Woman) about female writers and travellers, and the representation of women in the Mediterranean.
It starts on March 14th with a conference entitled “Single trips Stories of women travelers in the south of the Mediterranean” by Mònica Rius Piniés, followed by ‘’ Looks at the Bosphorus: Turkish poets from the 19th and 20th centuries’’ a conference by Nesrin Karavar on the 11th of April. Karavar will be giving anoth conference on May 16th under the title “Captives and conversations. The vision of Cervantes on the Ottoman coast”. The last conference will take place on June 20th under the title “Women of the sea at Thousand and One Nights: Who are you afraid of, Simbad the sailor?” by Margarita Castells Criballés.
