The Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (FFEM)’s photography exhibition "Dones trencant barreres. Transformant les ciutats mediterrànies" ("Women breaking barriers. Transforming Mediterranean cities") is currently hosted by the Col.legi de Periodistes de Catalunya (Catalan Association of Journalists) in Barcelona, Spain.
The exhibition, organized by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), FFEM’s founding member, can be visited between the 18th of February and the 11th of March of 2019 at the headquarters of the aforementioned association.
"Dones trencant barreres. Transformant les ciutats mediterrànies" is a travelling exhibition born from the photography contest "Powerful women: Breaking stereotypes in the Euro-Mediterranean region", launched by the FFEM in November of 2017, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The exhibition showcases the photographs of the 10 finalists of the competition, each one accompanied by an explanatory text that contextualizes the image, explaining the stories of brave and inspiring women. The 10 selected photographs highlight indeed courageous and independent women who have broken gender stereotypes in their communities, fighting against the established female roles and participating in the transformation of mentalities in cities and villages in Algeria, Belgium, Egypt, Israel, Morocco, Palestine and Turkey.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
