From October 22 to November 2, 2018, the Francesca Bonnemaison Women’s Cultural Center (Barcelona, Spain) will host a photo exhibition titled "Dones trencant barreres. Transformant les ciutats mediterrànies" ("Women breaking barriers: Transforming Mediterranean cities "). Founded in 1909, the Francesca Bonnemaison Cultural Center is a space for meeting, exchanging and creating feminist cultural projects.
This event takes place following the photo contest launched by the FFEM on November 25, 2017, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women ("Powerful women: Breaking stereotypes in the Euro-Mediterranean region "). Each photo had to be accompanied by a text explaining the history and context of the take. The 10 selected photographs highlight brave and independent women who participate in the transformation of cities in the Mediterranean.
The event is also part of the "La Biennal del Pensament" (Biennal for Thought), initiative of the City of Barcelona (Spain), which aims to analyze the role of cities in facing the challenges of the 21st century through a series of activities starting on October 15, 2018.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
