From October 22 to November 3, 2018, the Francesca Bonnemaison Library, in Barcelona (Spain) will host the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (FFEM)’s photo exhibition "Dones trencant barreres. Transformant les ciutats mediterrànies" ("Women breaking barriers. Transforming Mediterranean cities"). The exhibition’s opening ceremony will be held at the Library’s hall on the 22nd at 19:00h, and it will include a presentation on FFEM’s activities.
Next, from November 5 to 14, the exhibition will be hosted by Ateneu l’Harmonia (Harmonia Civic Centre) which is also located in Barcelona.
Both events take place following the photo contest launched by the FFEM on November 25, 2017, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women ("Powerful women: Breaking stereotypes in the Euro-Mediterranean region"). Each photo had to be accompanied by a text explaining the story and context of the take. The 10 selected photographs highlight brave and independent women who participate in the transformation of cities in the Mediterranean.
The events are also part of "La Biennal del Pensament" ("Biennal for Thought"), initiative of the City of Barcelona (Spain), which aims to analyse the role of cities in facing the challenges of the 21st century through a series of activities starting on October 15, 2018.
