Xabaca is a project which aims to rethink about censorship and self-censorship processes faced by women Arab creators in their countries of origin, by both the political and social conditions and gender prejudices.
One of the first steps of the project was to provide to five women artists from Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon and Palestine a creation and cohabitation residence in Barcelona. They will present the outcomes in an event which will also serve to present the main goals and the next steps of a project which is aimed to promote women Arab artists as a social change agents for the fight for the freedom of speech.
The event will take place at the European Institute of the Mediterranean, Girona st.20, Barcelona.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
