On 26 and 27 October 2022, the Conference on Women for the Mediterranean organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) will take place in Madrid. Ministers from UfM member states, UfM co-presidencies (EU and Jordan) and representatives of national, regional and international stakeholders from the public and private sectors are expected to join this high-level event.
Before the conference takes place on the 27th, the Ministers responsible for women’s affairs and gender equality from the 42 member states will meet the day before as part of the 5th (UfM) Ministerial Conference on the theme of women’s empowerment in society.
The aim of the event is to exchange views on the empowering of women and on women’s rights in the context of regional crises (health, water, food and energy security). Furthermore, it is hoped that a roadmap will be drawn up for the coming years, which is to be implemented for this regional agenda at ministerial level and with the goal to approach an effective gender equality policy.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
