During the Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (EMWF) held at IEMed on September 27, next steps have been planned to advance on the topic of equal rights between women and men in the Mediterranean region.
Various issues around the Foundation’s mandate were discussed, including specifically the need to maintain dialogue with civil society in the area of gender equality and women’s rights and that the Foundation stands as a bridge between the North and South of the Mediterranean in this very area. In the spirit of these values, the Foundation aims to help emancipation, empowerment and strengthening of the role of women in the Euro-Mediterranean area, which stand as a guarantor for peace and development.
There was also a particular focus on the Foundation standing as a bridge builder between the intergovernmental discussion and what is happening at the civil society level. The committee notes that there is a need to continue to fight for the reinforcement and protection of women’s rights in the link between the vertical, national, intergovernmental and regional levels that the Foundation stands for.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
